LIDICKER

Aug. 24
Checked maps (N 2 1/2 mi. N of Mainline = 11 1/2 N of Makong);
camper working. Picked up a small hybrid then thought
it best to keep going. Took a few photos at the Vince
& D left to make another attempt to get to Bili
Bili Island. We turned E on main road while left main
Rd. to Omum about 1 mi. S of the Sum River where there
is a trade store. This road took me to the coast &
the village of Bil Bil which is just opposite the island.
We talked to 3 different men in the village & they all
agreed it would be difficult to get to the island
without an outboard motor boat. They had only one
iron canoe & it was pretty rough build. Also 3 different
answers on how many cars there were on the island &
whether or not they contained bats. One said there
was 1 cane, another agreed with our information that there
were 2, & the third said there were 3. Also two
claimed bats were absent at this time of year (usually
present at other times) & the third said there were bats
present. I don't think they go over there very often.
So we went back to the main road & continued S
to Bannp. We went to the S. Bannp Cove & placed
a mist net over the entrance. While we were working
a Colilichin flew into the net from the outside.
Then we returned to Mainline late for lunch. After-
wards we took a number of pictures of the group.
