regarding an ex post permit for the species
I expect to carry out in it. Went into
making with Bob Storey. He just a few specimens
on the ship; I went to the bank, sent a
telegram to Bill Packham telling him that I'll
be away on the 27th. Also briefly visited
Safit Cuvier picked up small chaps masks. Then
we went back to the ship (still left at noon),
then to the airport to pick up some live herps
that had come in from Karkar. Back to Melville
for lunch. It has not rained significantly for
several weeks now & the woods are extremely
dusty. After lunch, Tom Bostel, Vince, Al Bruck,
Don Belacchi (2nd yr. student at Sydney U.) & I took a
small boat & went out to the far edge of the
N. end of Sisiut Island & waited for a swain &
smoked diving. About 16:00 Vince & I went out
to set traps. We went to a forest area about
2/3 of the way to Sangi. We set out 44 traps on
the east side of the road alternating shamis &
rat traps (22 each). Then we put a line of 13 Shamis
on the west side of the road in forest. Scouted some
jonidilla others area for setting. Set shami's before
dinner & I was not only salty but covered with
dust. After dinner wrote letter to Tadiki & came
up on notes.
