LIDICKEN 1969 Aug. 19 cont. up to dinner time. We learned today that the Alpha Helix will be returning to San Diego in a few days. This is to allow Group C coming after us to go ahead with plans. Because of budget cuts, if the ship were to remain here, Plan C would have to be cancelled. So we put together for a cave trip tomorrow. Aug 20 Right after lunch, Vince and I went to Melody. I mailed a box of culture vials to T.C. Hsu - Houston and then we loaded 5, looking for caves. We were hoping to find some way to get to Bili Bili Island where there are apparently 2 caves. We went to the Yagamu Hospital and then to the Yaganu Leper hospital on the road to the Sulphur Cave. The leper hospital is about 1/2 mi. further S than the Sulphur Cave. This is the road to the south of the Sot Sot River. We stopped at the hospital and asked about getting to Bili Bili. We were informed that this was wrong road and we would have to go back to turn up at Paloran. Then we went back to the main Yagamu Hospital and asked them about a cave which is supposed to be near the first village S of the hospital. We didn't learn anything about the cave but found out that the village in question was called Barup and that the road over this is called Arret. We went to the village but found it deserted. Arret is just the village we came to a house where we stopped and asked about the cave.
