What a species & packed gear for going into the Adellats mountains tomorrow. The evening before I had set I small mouse trap - betweth Griffins head since he had reported a "mouse" living in his office. Caught a adult of Ruttars exulans. Toward evening Herb Dassauer brought - my small R.exulans ~ 2 inches; a child & with 2 pups which he had gotten from local school kids. I dissected the way small individual + the pups (1S+1F, 35.gr.). The ad. F (AH 290) was killed by Vince & person.

Drew up 0530, had small breakfast, & drove in to airport with Bill Peckover (Pt. Moray telegraphed a telephone, ornithologist). We arrived at airport at 0645. Our plane (Cessna) arrived a few minutes later. Our total cargo + us was weighed in at 772 lbs.
We took off for Wanuma in the Adelberts about 0800. It was mostly overcast with numerous cloud (fog) patches on ground. Wanuma is on the main ridge & on the W side of the mountains in the Ramu drainage.
It is a Lutheran Mission with a tiny rough airstrip.
The plane took off promptly & just barely got away when the fog + rain closed in. Wanuma is ~ 2000 ft elevation. It rained all morning. Bill & I went for walk with 3 villagers for 2 1/2 hrs. We walked mostly NE toward main mountain ridge & got into very big forest before we turned back. The first two little villages are
