20 July cont. -
About 1415 "sing-sing" began outside of lab to celebrate the arrival of the Alpha Helix.
Went for article on the way back to lab to skin a Dolomieu mirror that Bob Suther had studied the eyes of, removed them.
The Griffins & I & Alan Wilson went to Sample to watch bats. From 1815 to 1845 watched bats flying over small ridge east between W of reserve training camp. Bats were streaming through a great number.
Griffin had his bat detector & thought that was again our Hippidion galactus. From about 1830 on we saw that 80 % of a large bat just H. Dickerson. Griffin also thought that was some Embellamine & we saw our numerous small jirdiveller-like bats.
When we got back, the sing-sing was just breaking up.
Watched Wilson proceed to extract proteins from muscle of Paraxetium & Dolomieu.
21 July
After breakfast, Griffins & Suther & I went to Melody. I got my shotgun registered & bought some corn.
Then we looked south toward Sulfur Cave. This cave is just N of the Yalooma Leper Hospital. A strongly smelling stream flows out of the cave which is not far to the W of the road. In spite of the strong H2S smell, we saw fish in the stream & I water skied on the water. The cave was very hot inside & muddy. We saw about 30-40 Hippidion galactus.
