Tom Larson Collected Golden Mole (1) Genus - Chrysochloris Amblysomus hottentotus species } Family - Chrysochloridae Superfam - Chrysochloroidea Order - INSECTIVORA Example Specimens - 1 No. 3321, Pringle, Kingwms'town, C.P. ♀, 22 Sept. 1939, H-B-112, Hf-14, Tl-0, Ear-0, Description - Head - no visible eyes, oval bare spot on nose. On top of head golden metallic brown with a copper green tinge on back when held in light. Cheeks a pale buff or golden, a golden luff on chin and throat. Body - above a dark golden brown with a greenish metallic sheen, below a lighter more luffy golden color. Hair soft and about 1/4" long, very thick. Tail - none visible - the very short tail under skin. Hind Foot - 5 toes with Claws, short hairs above or toes, pads bare and gold color, foot short and wide for digging. Front foot - 3 Claws, 1st Vestigial attached to and slightly below longer second claw.
