Larson Collected Hedge hog Genus species - Aetheclinus f. frontalis Subfamily - Erinaceinae Family - Erinacidae Superfamily - Erinacoidea Order - INSECTIVORA Example - KM-513 87, 15 Feb. 1940, Fort Beaufort . C.P. J.Allis, 190-25-34-28. Description Head - black just from just about eyes around to cheeks, nose and chin, white band running on forehead, infront of ears, under and behind ears around under throat, short shiny quills starting on top of head, banded white, black, white tipped, ears black with short white sparse hairs. Body - above with close set quills about 1" long, sides coarse brown hair with white tips, below dark brown hairs, brown rump. Fore feet - 5 toes with claws (short), 1st toe vestigial and up on side of foot, pads brown, stubby foot, four light brown claws, Hind feet - 5 toes with claws, no 1 vestigial and up on side of foot, no. 2, long nail, nos- 3,4, and 5 progressively shorter, pads dark brown, hair brown. Toil - only a vestige stump.
