Tom Larson Giant Elephant Shrew Tail - Shorter than body, black above, thick, black hairs below at the end half, toward tail base more light, hairs very short, base of tail naked, a narrower gland running below under tail in form of a black streak. Forefeet - 5 toes with brown claws, 1st toe well up side of foot, pads brown, hair on toes and feet short and light brown. Hind feet - legs long, foot half length of leg. 4 toes only with long brown claws, pads dark brown, light brown hairs below. on upper legs - no hair - skin very light. Petrodromus Venustus occidentalis KM-745 ♀, 22 May 1938, 3030', Kazungula, N. Rhodesia, 200-178-55-34, 50mi. W. Victoria Falls, N. Bank of Zambesi Coloration much the same as P. Venus. only tail ventrally shows no dark gland, unifrom black below except at base of tail which is light colored.
