Larson Spotted Tondo Rhynchocyon macrurus Genus species - Rhynchocyon macrurus Family - Macroscelididae Superfam - Macroscelidoidea Order - INSECTIVORA Cohort - UNGUICULATA Example specimen Head - KM-none given, 07, sept-1943, Mickwa Stream, H Roseberry Dist Chief Mulondolo area, N.E. Rhodesia, D.G. Lancaster. No measurements - when stuffed - Description Head - snout long brown haired, tip brown, brown above hairs banded straw and black, ears light brown, chin ruffows white. Body - 6 strips running from shoulders to ail, middle 3 darkest brown with 5 white spots inbeldled in stripe, next 2 stripes with 6 white marks, last two with alternating brown stripse, with 5 white marks running down it. background color on shoulders and between stripes brown as head, rusty flanks and sides, shoullers, ventrally light ruffows. Tail - long black, whitish tipped, light below. Front feet - 4 toes 4 claws, 4th toe vestigial and up on side of foot, pads dark, hair rusty brown. Hind feet - legs long, foot long, 4 long toes with long brown claws, pads brown or black, hair rusty brown and short.
