erson Collected Rock Dassie Genus Species - Procauia capensis Family - Procaviidae Order - HYRACOIDEA Example Specimen - KM-10302, 07, 8 Dec. 1937, Kliphuis 11mi. N.E. Clanwilliam, C.P. 2500-3000', Shortridge. HB-520 — HF-70, EOr-32 Description - Head - dark brown, lightly below, chin whiskers black and short ovate, fur around neck lighter brown. Body - long, dark brown on top, a black spot in middle of back called Dassie spot, sides lighter brown, fur quite soft and short, light brown below, scattered guard hairs long and black. Tail - none. Fore feet - pads dark brown, elephant-like on bottom, 3 toes with nails bent sep- only toward end, compact foot. Hind feet - 3 toes more separated, 1st with a falld claw (black), other claws more like nails.
