ORDER- RODENTIA Example specimen- KWT Mus. 9729, Dec. 1937 Heever, Port Nolloth, C.P. No recorded measurements. Description Head- above a metallic grey brown, eyes and ears vestigial, whitish brown around nose, whiskers fine, short, and light. whitish chin. Body- Staty grey brown above, fur quiet, short, very soft, sides more light grey, below a darker grey, often white patches will occur below. Tail- about 1" long, white strong bristle like hairs on tail for traveling clvit. Hindfeet- 5 toes, 1st toe shortest, feet light brown, bristle-like short hairs around foot margin and toes, each toe with a digging nail, pads light. Forefoot- 5 toes, 1st toe shortest, claws long, especially on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th toes, bristles around margins of foot and toes, pads light, hair light above.
