Tom Larson Collected Angola Water Rat Genus species - Dasymys nudipes Subfamily - Murinae Family - Muridae Superfamily - Muroidea Suborder - MYOMORPHA Order - RODENTIA Example Specimen - KWT-Mus, Shortridge, ♀ 7 July 1938, Alt. 3330', Limalunga, Barotseland, N.Rhodesia. No. 6540, HB-150, TI-152, HF:31.5,E-195. (Personally collected) Description Head - a dark brown, almost black, whiskers short, Cheeks and Chin and throat grey, hairs at base dark grey above. Ears round, quite long, light brown, dark-brown hairs inside car but no hair in center of ear. Oustile for almost bare except near margin. Body - A dark brown with a lighter reddish tinge, below a dark grey. Hair soft and long, with a gray base. Skin tight. Tail - Not quite as long as body. Heavily scaled, black, short hairs very sparse, scales rounded. Front Feet - 4 visible toes with very short white claws, 1st toe is only vestigial, feet bare, light hair on feet.
