Tom Larson Collected Multimammate Rat Genus species - Mastomys concha Subfamily - Murinae Family - Muridae Superfamily - Muroidea Suborder - MYOMORPHA Order - RODENTIA Example Specimen - (T.L.) Gladysvale Farm, Krugers- dorp, Trans. S. Africa, ♀, Nov. Description - Great variation, a dark grey- brown from tip of nose to tail, sides a lighter brownish grey, below a fairly light grey. Light spots at each mammae, whiskers very fine and dark, ears with very fine hairs and short (hardly visible). Ears brown. Tail - shorter than body, and ringed, very short hairs on tail hardly visible. Brown in color. Forefeet - 4 toes with claws, foot small and delicate. Hind-foot - 5 toes with claws, 1st and 5th toe very small, 3 middle toes same length, light pads, white short hair on foot above. Mammae - 14, range from up to 20- or along body.
