Tom Larson Chestnut Tree Mouse (con't) (Exphantilus rurestris) (Dendromus mesomelas) Hind feet - 5 toes, all with Claws, 1st toe vestigial with minute claw, 4 other toes about equal in length. foot long with short light hairs, no long hairs on hind leg. Mammar - 8 (4 pect. 4 ing) Dendromus mesomelas major KM-2697, 21 Aug. 1909 ?, Divudi (N. Bogano Drift) Okavango, S.W. Afr. W. Caprivi, 1022m, Shortridge, 65,80,21/3. Desc - Chestnut color, black stripes running from shoulders to base of tail, below white. Tail longer than body, blackish, 3 toes front foot, long, 5 toes back feet, two long, no. 5 shaped like a thumb, no 1. a vestige. Dendromus m. punilio KM-2694 ?, 13 Apr. 1938, Redelihuis, C.P. Geldenhuis, 79,110,21,15. Chestnut or ruffous brown above, grey below ruffous, tail 1 1/2 times longer than body, a darker brownish chestnut stripes barely visible down middle of back.
