Tom Larson Epauletted Fruit Bat Genus species - Epomophorus wahlbergi Subfam. - Pteropinae Family - Pteropidae Suborder - MEGACHIROPTERA Order - CHIROPTERA Example Specimen - KWTMUS, No. 4569, f 29 May 49, King Williamstown, C.P. HB-133, T-0, Hf-22, Ear-24 Description Head - Light brown, ears a darker brown and elong oval shaped, a white tuft of fur at base of each side of the ear, hairless outside of ear, inside a few furry white hairs. Hairs on face around and above nose, dark, fine, less than 1/2" long. Body - A medium brown above, below a light brown. Tail - None present. Hind feet - 5 digits of same length, claws dark brown and well curved and strong. Pads dark brown as above. Brown fur on legs. Only a little membrane attached to both sides of legs. Wings - Dark brown membrane, projecting out on wing upper arm. One long finger and claw at elbow joint, another claw 1" lower on wing margin.
