S.O. Lively 1952 Journal 50 Aug 9 16 mi N.E Pojoaque, 8750 ft, Santa Fe Co, New Mexico and a missed climb it was. I saw a Cooper Hawk go over the field to the north flying fast and high. A raven passed low over camp late in the afternoon. It chance for a shot. I set left the traps out pickers out a few chipmunk and set a steel trap up the road in a faint trail beside a log. Baited it with chipmunk. I hit a bat during the evening but shot but couldn't find him. I'll try tomorrow. The area in which I set my trap contained the following plants, Yellow pine; Douglas fir, Gambel oak, a thick under-story of young spruce and on the shallow soil on the bare rocks, cactus. What Zone, Mr. Monicus? Aug 10 Picked up traps. I Peromyscus maniculatus & here better move this trap line. I found the bat I shot last night. It was an Epitesius Tuscus and it was not 6 feet from where I had been standing. I set out of the road from here to the most east. Yellow pines for the most part with a thick under-story of gambel oak. Some areas, however, have no oaks but a good plantation of young pines. I do not see what the difference is. The Nat'l foots Forest Road Engineer stopped by and according to him, this area has never.
