I took off along the stream to the south, following
one of Bowman's old trap lines. I spotted 2 missed
traps both containing thoroughly dead chipmunks.
I shot 1 ♂ Williamson Sapsucker out of a spruce
about 15 feet up. He hung up on the trunk dead.
This in all spruce along this stream for a good
day many trout were to be seen in the deeper pools,
although, it is only about 3 feet wide and 4 "
deep" on the average. I took a shot at what
looked like a warbler, pretty high up. A clean
miss. Kinglets (Ruby Crowned) were plentiful
in the spruce near the stream edge. I shot a
Lincoln's Sparrow out of a small spruce (about
4 feet high) along the stream in the grassy meadow.
I noticed a chipmunk in a little dead spruce
about 6 feet off the ground, chattering at me. Also
saw fresh porcupine bedings. A 20 foot
spruce tree was stripped down completely to
within 3 feet of the ground. Several trees
nearby were also barked. I stalked a white-
crowned sparrow but just as I was about to bag
the beggar, I discovered that I was practically
in the Grane - Warren's camp. Wouldn't he
have been surprised to have his tent riddled with
#12s! Chickadees were numerous in the
trees along the stream on the way back.
I set 3 gopher sets on the hill to the West.
