Journal 17 February 1972 Lo Petexbatun, Peter, Guatemala tigir still present. Matigiri then person. Cat revado, jaguar, reedy linds. Not very communicative. No skins or wild animal remains seen around home, except a few on the top used to hunt on. Also visited Margaito Isania, 1/2 mile to N, about 70 yrs. said by Julio D. to be good hunter. Said ococote present, + tigiris. But best found and hunted when water in lake down, drawing muddy playa. He thought did not eat turtles. Used other animals mantoul-javali, peteocha de monte (white-lipped), tapir, turtle, etc.. No skins around - he said sold. He had few or no cartridges for his 12-ga single; wants some w/o shot buckshot. Answered great info, but little info. [Probably thought I might inform officials.] He thought his home in a good hunting area. | Returned to van Keker. Put up two bat nets, one at edge clearing in front of house, another in small clearing in woods. Took 2 bats by 10 p.m., one was day morning. Saw 1 or 2 by lake shore. Warm night - heard a chorus of toads from across lake to E. Saw a Bufo manini(?) at edge lake. Saw sye-sheuri's apparent herkingour about 60' up in tree at edge clearing. Porcine raised ground-floor latch in night. Saw an owl-sized brown owl, perched & above grassy ground. On day, a redtail-sized buteo(?) perched near edge clearing; apparently called (grey & black barred tail). | Did had told about "caniotas", a kind of lower underskin of men, caniotas days. Air lake. Agurize out. Spindle shape, two black made + looks at dawn and. Same one or more large (Dermotola?). 18 February 1972. Overcast. By canoe, paddled south along lake shore. Most of forest side under 60' tall. Large cedar stand
