"Journal 15 February 1972 Guatemala City, Guatemala Sarno says, book "The Guatemala Traveler" by [illegible] Rodman advertises Belize or hunting area, guarantee a jaguar for $1500 in 10 days, a return may. J.J. thinks actually hunt in Peter, & may take any age. Advertisers are Ernest Sarno of Tennessee, and Vic Brophy of Michigan. [Rodriguez] thinks Sarno only enters - ested in self-advertisement, but his articles seem good to me. I spent evening with J. Van Klee, wife, Bob, & Jim - they have a lure organization, Notutrek, which takes people on tours to ruin a jungle, take photos, sell rubbings, and miscellaneous. He came to Guatemala because, not allowed to be professional hunting guide in Mexico (by Corzo). Here 6 yrs. - for 3, took groups hunting in Peter at $125/day. Hunts jaguars by calling, bait, night light. Says that fire, dogs, lights, calling are no longer legal methods of hunting. New protests inside. Specializes in large black & white prints. Says that Dulois lives in Guatemala, hunt much, all over world, including jaguar, and have many trophies. Says Belize hunting co., which guaranteed a jaguar for $1500, missed several carnivore animals released and shot. Thinks tiger not yet coming, not return to success. Rarely attack cattle, but are killed 42 near La Libertad, usually not eating them. Jaguar not even kill. On Salinas River, sand, in dry season, many tracks, and can wait and see jaguar day day.
