Journal 10 April 1979. Santa Barbara, Calif. To Santa Barbara, Grove Hall at Sierra Club on same program as John Borenman. No plugged captive, I appeared. Met Bob Easton, Jack Sullivan, various Indulson people; Indulson about 80. Borenman & others had been to Wash D.C. to press hearing about captive budget w/ Greenvest (USFWS) and Decy. Andrus. Stayed w/ Jeff Hudson in Lala Vista. 11 April / 1979. Drove N. to Santa Maria, talked w/ office staff. The Evolving were in La Panza area were on 9 April & did include road up from Chaster Spring, to Pine Ridge & N. to Pogo Road. I continued on to San Luis Obispo, drove Mono Bay to talk w/ Lorento groups at Nat Hist Museums, United Museum, in M.B. State Parks. Then drove to Cambria area & N. to San Simon Cr., spent an hour watching mountain goat fops cameras in good visibility. ( Trucker of Col Poly had reported seeing an adult deer near Cambria at 1330 on 31 March.) Saw none; very windy day. Back to Museums. I Dan Mc M. told me that 5 cattle reported dead in Shale Hills from barkspur poisoning. He said last year many killed by blow, from feeding on lush grass after dry period. Most cattlemen now have more cows, cattle became good forage & high grain; many calves. I Letter from Bill Francis, Monterey, reports that "Red" Philip's reported canyons at Butcher's Leap, up Pali Clouds Canyon, recently! 24 April 1979. Went to Sacramento, leaving 0530, to state senate comm- itter meeting; Mt. lim bill SB 8835 presented at 9 PM, but no vote taken & our opposition not presented. Mrs. Oswego, Wykulye Carr, & cusual group present. Dinner w/ Dave & Larry Litten. Back to Berkeley. 7 May 1979. Monday. Rain in Berkeley. Departed 3 pm. & drove via Dwy. 5 to Chalamo, San Luis Obispo Co., & Glen Mc Millan Ranch. Arrived 9 pm. A wet winter, late spring. Oh said many mice this year. Berley
