Journal 26 March 1979. Santa Barbara, CA. talked w. Kiff & participants at Pepper Tree. Offered to take some in field. But raining weather, & group arranging new car; Canyon ofices visitors going to tread up coast, visit Yosemite, etc. | drove to Thousand oaks in rain at night. 27 March 1979. Slept late. Talked w. Dan & his visitor from Palo Alto. Phone from Merle Palmer; said phone talk w. Wilber, who thought USFWS recommendations had been approved by Greenwalt on 1 March, and that then had to be inspected in Recovery Plan, & that before capture, plan would be printed (for comment ?) in Federal Register. Mail also said there was plan for timber sale on Tejon Ranch & subdivision development. Bryan Walton reported one adult swan on cliffs SW of Paddy Bottle, 2x a week spent, seen from plane recently. Wilbur says cowbird activity indicates 2 possible nests (Big Pine (looks new, but hole not finished yet) and ?). 28-30 March. Worked on article for Lament, journal of Santa Monica Bay Audubon Soc. 31 March Saturday. 7:0 saw Luis Olivo to copy article. Thwn to Rancho El Chavo, & we toward Mono Bay, for Sierra Club camp, meetings. afternoon session with Dan & 10-15 S clubbers, stayed overnight. 1 April 1979. Drove N on State Hwy 4 from side road, almost Paddy Bottle & other hills; saw no birds. Weather fair. Drove on N up Hwy 1. This court looks like it could contain Condor habitat. Palo Colorado canyon, N of Big Line, goes inland into rolling grasslands. Bill Franklin had telephoned that Jay Heller of Camarillo had reported seeing 5 raptors, 2 mi S of Palo Colorado, on 17 March. | Drove on to Berkeley. 9 April 1979. Clubbed out a yoga from UC car pool & drove S. via 101 to Sherman Oaks. Talked w. Dan. Discussed SBGZO as not less hunt. ing. Stayed in my shelter. 10 April 1979. Talked w. Dan. Thwn drove to 54,0 & on state Hwy 101
