when people could there came in cars. Many observed at about 100 yds range. Returned to Elessant deols. Dinner & talk. Rode to Louis.
12 December 1978. Monday. Rain out off. Hail (1/8" grains) once worked on houses. Returned to Berkeley.

27 January 1979. Drove to Odesmo & El Mc Miller Ranch. Clear sunny day. Talked w/ Clrs & raptors and other things.
28 Jan. Drove out Beltemeter Rd. Saw + rough-legged hawk and 1 ferrugineous pygtime reached Carriso Rl at Wrekin Ranch.
Bogo to Hi Mtn.
Then via Pecos to camp, where paws on ground. Stayed 12 m to 2:30 pm, watching Huff's Hole area of 1966-69 condor nest, but saw no white-tailed condors, eagles. Clear day, N wind, cold. Passed 2 4-wk. drive cars on Hi Mtn upper road; several others were looking thru pass for pugs Lake area (main route from Bogs now). Returned to Bogs. No UFRS men around at guard station. Saw go. of & Cathartus. Visited home of John Arnold at ranch; not home, talked w/ wife. She said that various raptors had nests in cliffs across road from this house. A Fish & Game temporary employee for Waller, who was assigned to guard peregrine falcon nest at Huff's Hole, had taken groups of people up to nests. Mrs. Arnold thought he'd caused destruction, & that Waller too much of a fool for job! No condor warning signs on way to Hi Mtn. So, + no restrictions apparent to hiking down to the old nest sites. I talked w/ John A. at home of his father, Claude, in Bogs. John worked on Arroyo Seco Ranch. Said he had seen no puma sign since my studies there. Said his son reported seeing 2 condors on La Panza R; near Bartstop Canyon, about a week ago. He said a puma took, large, near P.&T. gate on Buckhorn Ranch recently.
