Valen de la Palma; another, to N., is Val del Moro. Lather has new logging road around E side; even named Klose (sp ?) in N American. He said howler monkeys in am to N, minor (stibb?) further up in vts. He thought we had many large mammals present including cochi de monte and guana but not tapir or danta. | We drove up the dirt road toward Val del Moro. Mostly wet pine, the same second growth areas. About 6500; then out, came to poor when large- leaved bromeliads abundant on trunks of pines to 10" dbh
of oakn + an oakn (?) too. | We cut & searched bromeliads; contained much water. Suzanne found 2 large black colomacuar after searching 12 or so. I found none, after searching 20 or more. ESK got one of another kind, to enclose a lizard in bromeliads. Spent 2-3 hrs at this. | Then we drove further N. Road ascended into mist/barn thru old cut area above pine zone and entered a patch of tall dense cloud forest at 7100; on E. slope of Val del Moro. New road, still in construction. Road then the first about 1.5 km, then into old cut drive of pines near C. Morela, clearing extended to pine zone. Walker say the hardwoods are "no muy til" about 8 km from San Lorenzo to forest. | Wind & fog coming from N., so visiblity poor. We camped at open entrance to thick forest. Set about 15 traps each. Put up 1 old mist net at side of road in forest. Flushed fern eird (Antmelus) from bank hole in 2 places. Heard tiger catls fly- nightly. At napt, both #7 and #9 of T. collaris scolded us, coming to about 50'. Walker said guatgale present, "saragueter." | By 8 pm., my traps took at least 2 large Pampuyacua, of kind taken earlier at Elideno & Curva del guetzal.
12 May 1978. Windy most of night, & dewy. Some fog to N. at dawn. Heard early chorus of Alauetta and apparently Tarsanes. Later walk, saw Tardus infuscatus, Antmelus, hummers, guatgal, mist net (ESK),
