Journal 30 April 1978. El Estor, Bot. (2 lakes), Guatemala (4, 10m. late in ESK catlogy. / Art told called seducto. / We visited town to shop & get boat info. / Noted Spathile turguola at t. 1 mm. / A 57 + 9 Cypelais lundica netted & released. Two Trogon interior taken in nets & released. An Oryzobora (2pm.) of (spec.) + a Leotygus materna netted; held overnight; blood sampled. Myiaden lymenurus (spec.) was laying. / Marcha H. watched brown jays malling a (rockside?) howler. She reported a Cypelais w. black throat (= white- noted?). / Net put near lake to look Rhynchina more (ESK catlogy) in use. Mon. 1 May 1978. Nets took no late dates in night. Muggy & rainless. / Net took a Cypelais in day (spec. OK). / Erik had fish die in categories; he preserved these and took others w. help of Bill Disher. / I spent most of morning getting Jed Bessell off on launch to Merision; several delays, but finally went about noon. Yesterday & today hot & muggy; about 90°F. I put up 3 birds. / We prepared to depart tomorrow early. A "labor day" Houles making calls in early morning. holiday today. Caprimulgid calls seeming. Arapendola heard during day. ^ 2 May 1978. Up at 0400 & departed before 5 a.m. for Puelko area. Too hot, muggy, (about 5'00' elev.) + buggy at Ester. Close bridge beyond Papaloa seemed good bird spot, w. large train along river. On to Tuscant, where market day in progress. Took a few photos. We are carrying fish caught yesterday, hoping to ship them alive from Puerto. 1700' Not in Tucson. Snakes in air & occasional fire seas. Arapendola rest up to above touches; it's about 3500' level. Much cooler & drier at San Julian + Puelko. Went to Quissis (Donna Ranch). Took bird walk. Saw several Myio- Moyi- dysodetic antrotrypus near springs; about 10 Spathile turgida in group in grass of old cornfield; also one Zonotrichia capensis. Saw Turca grapi's several T. torrefugues in two new houses. Saw black Oryzobora in brush near house. One baby-hood joy. Bluebird. Sunny + calm about 5 p.m.; little bird activity. / Erik & Bill D. searched brambles in isolated tree groups and soon took 5 large solanders.
