C Koford 1978 30 Journal Grate. 13 March 1978. Nr. Telemar, Dnt., Alta Verapaz, hand note: The fish I can find pond w. Telepio, carp, + gam- lusia. The third same escapes to rivers. We saw fish in pond to about = lbs, wt. Number of sweet grapefruit falling + rotting. Some coffee now being dried in yards; the species grow here flowered just at same time, year around (robusta?). Lower grass grows in fields or cultivated crops. I returning to Telemar, we saw a Cleonus lucernus hovering over flat cornfields, + many Valentini among bushes + cornstalks. I know her 9 years. Both Hugo's / Hot day. Waited for bus from 3-5 p.m. Bus to El Estor (1.25 cash), arriving 1930. To Los Pantes Rd; saw malpaim there. 14 March 1978. Los Pantes, El Estor Dnt., /zabal/ Guatemala. Spent morning writing letters + notes. Clear + warm lazy day. Prepared specimens for travel. 15 March 1978. Took 0630 public ferry (1.50) for Merico in light rain. Bus to highway (50 cents). Then bus to W. I debarked at El Rambo; Cile went to Guatemala. I took bus to Quisco to get shells + leave gear; then took bus to Quetz. city & joined Cile at Cholit Suxja. 16 March 1978. To Botanical Garden where arranged specimens. Took about 100 lists, to Srofer, where I got a permit to export (typed on sealed paper). Cile to Dept. Agric. + Ind. in Avenues Pkts. and got export permit for snakes & food, and for 15 epiphytic plants. Stayed Cholit Suxja. 17 March 1978. Took 0445 bus, Fruterija, for Talsivan. Stopped in various towns; arrived about noon (charged me $5; but others about $3 !). Charged me $1.50 for Mex. tourist card. Inspected luggage - some carping about my peeled specimens, but agreed Guatemalan export permit as "revisado." Crowded today, before Panama Santa. Took very crowded bus to Tapachula. Changed $ to pesos. 1st class Crist. Coln had no space for 2
