C Loefad 1978 21 Journal 26 Feb. 1978 5 Km ESE Perulha; D. Baja Varapor, Goate. fern clumps, and new rocks by stream. Mail from MVZ sent Feb. 7 finally caught up with us, sent by Dany via rev. Calm night. Mon 27 Feb. 1978. Trope held 1 more (074617). Net sna fish ponds held 0. Eile can reds green trogan w. white bars b/wt. clear on chest; = I. collaris? In open near stream & saw quadrelaneros (chest & belly mod. gray, uniform except for melon area). Two were together along the track & under some cycloney; fine dark mahm m wings (? tail?). Several w. bluebirds atop trunk Camp. fuligif. conspic. on brancher near stream. We prepared to go to Chilares, w. minimal gear. Took bus 14:5. 154 ea. to Chilares Rd. Hiked up about 2 hrs in open second-growth pine (5 needles; mostly 600' derive 10" DBH). Got ride to Chilares in lumber truck. Shopped food in C. Then walked to Fina bar forge. Blackhumas-many, some now ripe (more advanced than at Queues). Saw gp 10+ band-tailed paragon in small tree. Mostly green-leafed brush & broken, w. occasional trees left from front. Logging of vegal set F. bar forge. Also firewood cutting, & trucks of chute (too few) cutting. But still large chunks of cloud forest near 1/2 km house. Heard Trogon vociferous. Put up 10 m. net on east to NW of 4 house. Set 10 snares traps (more) & 2 nets. Tu 28 Feb. 1978. Slept in house. 2 workers also staying there. Heard calls of capimulgido on ground in eve; later, calls 2 different house owls. Net held 0 late, but 1 thrush, 1 humming (photo). Trope-Keitwood. induced by fence near house. Lge. man's-natured ridge on house. Another in hole under tree but inner edge front. Saw or quietel in flight. Saw 2 jays- blue w black area eyes & melon ( Cyanolyca?). Scirmer-brown, for-eg. size; 1 tiny, 1 grunts. Robin-lge. yellow bill, clagacola across heart. Many other birds seen briefly; rich in species in partly cut front.
