Journal 26 Feb. 1978. 5 Km ESE Purah, Dpt Baja Verapaz, Guatemala (4615) Tropical O, chloronura w. 60gm. Peregrine-shaped Q, lost. (see: ESK) Upper not held yellow small flycatcher + 2 hammers (related). Hamers: one lay, Campelotimus? white spot just post eye, slight downcurve in bill about 35mm long, green body, grey throat; tail large; thin black distally, w. tips white little nodules, much laterally. Other Trochilidae w. nearly straight bill about 1"-2.5 mm or less, descending white line below each eye, small size bird, green body, aristeguided tails. / Late saw a yellow warbler w. grey breast + dark streaks at sides front. / Much Onthini calling from both E. and W. about 0730. / Then saw the dark quadrelaruncus singing atop tall strusside tree; unmarked grey back, thick white eye ring) grey malar stripe on light grey; Ciba says white outer tail feathers; short bill = Minidae? / Small wood war w. short tail on treetops in moss. / (= 2 sq.) Semin- saw one go to water in creek at two spots, gray belly, upper light cutly set spherical 20 mm diam. acorns (leaves) and 4" green pine cone. Cepidomys fulvifrons conspicuous atop tree. / How trogon peaked; tail w. fine black & white bars; belly red, bill yellow; light green on back grey; reappearant white later. dark breast + red belly. / Saw Setophaga Amen. Meldent (C. Potosi ?) briefly, 10' up in trailside tree. / Back to house 0945. Prep. some liyase taken this morning. / Left about 09:15 for slow hike up Co. Capantus to N. Colm, also. Searched brambles, under logs, & rocky netted wood. Captured a few frogs + lizards (Anolis, Cnemis) (see ESK catalog). Reached surveyed line at about 2000 m. in forest at 1320. Forest mixture of species, much tree ferns + bromeliads, up to 30 m. tall trees, damp & some reinlets. Lawn cleared and had stumps of former tree ferns to 10" diameter. Almost no birds seen or heard in forest. Descended back to house; doze increased. / An apparent rough-winged swallow flying near house. / Set out 10 mm. traps, 3 not + 2 live, in bushes or clover, under
