Erik + I pedaled boat out inlet; saw gpe 7 (n+) gr. billed lions (5 m. away in brush), Heliconia (100 m. W of site yesterday; it flew short distance); gallinazo, citrusline trogon, gpe of shot-killed pigeons; a Clercin patricia (?-alone, eating whole 10 x 15 mm. reddish-yellow fruits from tree); hammer ? w. straight red bill, black head & shoulder, rufous tail dorsally, pinkish (Anagris squamosa? - only looks seen). Took a treasure net. (Possibly little kingfisher seen in Campia last eve at distance) Baltimore oriole; strip bushy near inlet. / Erik went in boat not + released; Volatinia, Compsophila tangarae. w. Adolf to get water sample; back 11:30. / Flood Corridor in grass- land. Gpe. anis also in brush in grassland, to S W of lake. Not seen duck entrance 5-9 p.m.; later moss but no catch. 9 Feb. 1978. With Erik to Potaje; Adolf's Pangulo row us over inlet, about 50 min. on calm water. 8/10 alt at some clouds. Saw 4 pelicans in gpe; ocean gull or large tern. Swallow in gpe. To S of Potaje, river nice slowly; many cangos, largely flooded + green. Flat mostly grazed grassland, w. scatted palms & other trees. Most huts w. palm thatch. Barbed-wire fences and hundreds of yellow cattle. Hiked S toward mouth of cango & J. Maizlis fauna. No lack many palm fruits, + a large con cute hill w. large red antenna. Burned airstrips. About 15 min. walk to house, 15 min. to river in cango mouth. Clear + flowing; many fish to 5" long. Broken up first but tree to 100'. / Erik saw a marmosa (24' antlers, white under tail, chocolate brown body) at 15'; apparently sick. / Parrots flew out. Saw a gpe of 20+ swifts; some had white area at shoulders (=Panyptila?). We saw gpe. of 10 and of 8
