Journal 3 Feb. 1978. El Estor, Dept. Izabal, Guatemala. we took alive to lab; see CJK notes. 10+ parrots flew over in eve. Saw ipomoeolas. Mark said blue & yellow trogon seen near lab. Set up but not net, lab. 4 Feb. 1978. Rain night + most of morning. No catch in net nor lab. Large & medium parrots flew over. Anser. egret. Seen from mr. water. Brown jays - flock 7+ in trees in lab. or Lewis a black headed snipe in Caesopia. Humma (Amazilia ?) at hibiscus flower. Pteroglossus ? or majoriter mollitus? auratus One spragphila longirostris seen over. | Tried fishing w casting spinner, struck but landed none. | In mr head noted small fish near dark + minute in grass; obtained several species, which CJK kept for preservation. | About 10 slow- flying medium-sized bats flew from first landing shock when disturbed during day; some also from underbridge of bridge. above water, & small flew from down bldg. about 6 p.m. | Moved net to near lake; another 100 yds inland, in grassy area at edge tallin vegetation. No catch; closed 8 p.m. | Also tried throw net & took several small fish, to 7", including anchovy (pelates s1/05) (Adolfo Pozuelo, another, said common; EE-pesca called iperca. 5 Feb 1978. El Estor, Lake Izabal, Guatemala. No catch in nets. Specimen fish # got 400 gm. tetra, $6305, and an Electrophorus s1/27. Kodachrome of both. | Last one Erik caught a Kinosternon turtle; also Kodachrome. Their mom, car hit me on road; Erik saved twice in ETOH. Took a Myiarchus in net + saved blood for DNA tests (see back of this page for descr.). Cistothorus trogon - near dock, K1,2 3,4.
