24 Jan. 1978. Mon. Lv. Comitan 0800 on Transportes Tachos
to Guatemala.
for border. Wooded hills then. Immigration officials helpful
& friendly, but telephone not working - so waited about 3 hrs.
Then line clear, + one guard telephoned to Mex. D.F. to verify data
of my lost tourist cd; I paid 90p. (22/$1) for call. No inspection.
Met 2 men w. car from Minin; jwn to Dr. with them, $2 for tourist
card. Cursory inspection of a few of our bags. Then the Minin
men drove us on to Huehuet., when we cashed traveler's checks.
Took 3 pm bus for Guate.; arr. 8 p.m. Pos Hotel Diligencia, $5.

31 Jan. Shopped & strolled in Guate. city. Visited Mario Dary at
Botan garden. He said he had not read my letter about project, sent
last Nov. Dig. No available at Kormar; 4 zebra + chemicals at
Kormar, cable 9 am. 11 av. Plan to go to Eter via Emilol line)
on 3 Feb. Stayed at favorite Hotel Smija, $5 for 2.
1 Feb. 1978. More shopping. 80% ETOA $3.10/1. at farmacia.
Formalin, 2 lls. 1.30 at Kormar; 1 ll. glas. acetis $1. Visited
Just. Indigenista, very minimal + needy in zone 2; some info
on Kekchi. Mario flew to Eter for the day; it rained there.
2 Feb. 1978. Shopped for food + agpt. Steel traps, Adanas
cloth, ammo components, on 4 avenida, 15-18 ca. Visit-
ed Mario; very busy as usual. Gave him written plan of
cost tickets for Eter trip ($300) from
5 de los Mejia project. Emilol ac., 14° c. m. 6° av.
3 Feb. 1978. Fri. Lv. Litagua sta. (15-42, 0° av.) 0810 on fine
bus, a former greyhound, about 1/4 full, for trip to Marino.
afts. num. cloudy, 100%. Second growth trees broke on
hills. Black wetness. 0850, bridge at “Aguia Coberta” over-
one yellow (Codiospermum?) flowers on tree; some red other,
