C Koford 1978 Journal- Gate Trip 25 Jan. 1978 To LA and Mexico Departed SFO on Western Air. to LA. Thence on night flight, Mexicana III to Mexico City. With Eike Koford. 26 Jan. 1978. Arrived 0500. Trolley bus to Aeropuerto sta. of Metro, but not permitted on because of luggage. Took a Delfin bus to west toward Zooco Cosme. with help of 2 friendly boys, got off near ADO bus terminal in Arena Vista (N. of Plaza de la Revolution). Took 10 a.m. bus toward Oaxaca. Arrived thus about 2000. Clear, dry, cool. Stayed at San Tomas hotel or alameda, about $5 for 2, with bath. Dis- covered that had lost my wallet which contained tourist card, among other things. Probably pick-pocket got it. 27 Jan. Oaxaca: To bank to report lost credit card. To ministering public office to report loss of tourist card & other things. Then took 1730 second class bus to Tuxtepec Inturuguay on 28 Jan. arriving 0400. In rush to get tickets on bus to Comitán, Eike had his wallet stolen. We took 08:45 bus (at 10 a.m) of Cristóbal Colón to Las Casas. (Met Michael Nudle of New Mexico, & wife, on way to Antigua.) Briefly at Las Casas, then on 1315 bus to Comitán. Then immigration authorities in- formed my papers; after much talk, they decided they would have to telephone Mexico City, at my expense, & could not do it until Monday. Spent night in Comitán at El Delfin, no water. 29 28 30 Jan. Sunday. Took walk to La Quija, about 2 miles to N., where life primitive. Moved to La Villa, cheaper pensions. Overslept yesterday, sleeping today; cold when cloudy. Turkey vultures & black vultures frequent in air. Plaza walk - sound in eve; music, parade w. fireworks - San Valentín
