3 April 1977 Berkeley to Shandon S. Luis O. Co.
with Dick K. & Julie Poffel, drove in '66 Olds pickup via San Jose to Shandon,
255 mi. Observed partial lunar eclipse. Now only one Diptera in recent
roods in evening. Low rainfall year. Stayed in "my" shack.
4 April 1977. Breakfast & talk w Sam McM. & May, mostly about the
proposed 1080 poisoning on Hunter Lygott & recent public meeting about it.
Then via Bakersfield & Mojave then morning. Arrive stop San Gabriel &
San Bernardino mts. Among new cities E. to Josh Tree N.M. then
visit Cotooed Springs area. On post Direct Contact camp w Chukchansi
5 April 1977. On via Indio, Blythe, to Tucson, arriving 2 p.m. 1000 mi.
from Berkeley. Visited Ariz. Fossil Forest museum. Stayed w friend Carol Nageh,
now working w. Mexico - U.S. program of museum. Tucson, Ariz.
6 April 1977. Shopped in Tucson. Confere w. Dr. John Sandlinson & with
Amadis Baca, kind man w. multiple interests. Met Ted Parker of E.S.U., who had
worked in N. Bern. Sam said that Paul Schulty had reported Kuiters in Verery -
malama Carcer. (Otis Barrell & Terry Johnson (Colombia work in Santa
mets nts.) did not come.)
To Mexico
7 April. Departed 0700 via Greyhound Line for Nogales ($3.35 ea.), at
Nogales saw gps. 2-3 Cotteti in air up to 25/gp. Departed 1100
235 p.s.e.k - arriving 21 p./ $1
on old TVS line, arrived at 6:45, 275 km. to Hermosillo over space buck
dry lands. Departed 11 a.m.
To Sinaloa, Mexico
8 April. Arrived Mazatlan 0500. Breakfast on beach. Many Frigate, gulls,
terns, pelicans. Visited stores, markets. Departed 2130 by Pacific Line
big engine no radar than a Hillside
for Guadalajara (105 each). Walked to Mexico. Hours were spent at hunting.
9 April arrived Guadalajara about 0700. Rented at Hotel (125 p. for
me, w 3 beds; Tapatio). Visited markets, plazas, markets. Saw new
mild animals skins for sale. Departed 2300 via Omnibus to Majis for
Nayia, 114 p. each. (Live birds in market included blue grosbeak, green
gape, black-backed grosbeak, big tanager, toucan.
