this morning. (Same in hand and a few months old). / Usual smoky
haze today w, 10-15 m.p.h. breeze from E. & a few cumulus clouds.
In fact at La Mula, yesterday, we saw one group of scott turkey on main
road of small jaguar on a dusty side trail. / Man here say that scotts eat
many chickens at house. / 5 April addenda after Los Caballar area we
went N. a few km, then walked sw then fords down to "Huachaguna"; a near
dry caño, arriving about 0430. Here we saw at least 2 European. About
100 boating in an bush close to only water hole. Caimon & large
shoals.

lived in mud; came out when prodded. In the twilight, a large
owl w. spectacles. Saw 2 agoutis in forest. One site, the upper-

canopy partly felled by burning base & logs (or heavy) taken from
upper branch; fire cleared 10 ha. area. Our guide, Antonio,
paid no attention to smoking logs, palms, flowers. / Along the
caño at Huachaguna we saw at least 5 King Vultures, includ-
ing a black young w. tinge of color on bill and small
caruncle, at least 2 others with heads partly feathered &
wings gray rather than white. So probably nest here! / On the
rood, we saw one Dasyprocta agouti in open. / At some point,
a flaming fire in grass at edge route. Bird on ground around
it, about 30' out, was about 10 Butes- sized hawk (reddish
brown mantle, gray body, black wing edging), presumably getting
insecta rodents drawn out by fire. / April 6 - same general
area, we saw at least two White-tailed? hawks, hovering, diving
to ground (not in the brush). / In evening we returned to Los
Caballar caño. Put out sardines near water & dusty trail. Brush hut
of smooth with branches. After dark, looked for eye shine. Saw many eyes
of Caiman but none of mammals except a few deer, and about 4
