(= puma)
saw a lion feeding there about 5:30 p.m. day before yesterday & that remain had
been partly covered w. grass. Last night it (?) returned and ate rest. That group
of men, camped at Barinas, had no further news of jaguars or ocelots. | We went
to Casa Jorge, near SE edge ranch. & logue was there 10 months. He'd be bad
seen no jags or curaguara. He went with us to the "carretas" tr. E., rough
raced dirt road. We found water of C. Jorge, then on to intersect w/ c.
70 (pools only). Man living there, small star, said no recent trails
guaran, but men from nearby town killed big male to E. on
Carro 70 about one month ago. | Area E. of carreta much
burned, including edges gallery. Empty rifle shell boxes. No fence.
Another ranch. Casa Anglesa to S-des said to be much burned.
We walked up & down C. 70 looking for Curaguara tracks;
people to E., pools to W. but no tracks. Returned to Jorge
but stuck in the same fad in jeep on way - took us rest of
day to get out, clean engine, & got back to ranch - with
final aid from "Pedro." (= Bernhard Beishoff). | B said that by

find in Oct. - Nov. in "Baja del Tigre". Much muddy
ground & no cattle to scan tracks. Many young herons
such, & curagua ate many of these. He made some
check on mulvin area last year & saw track of 4 jag-
uars in area about 5x5 km, in area where we had
camped (4, f w. large gang, big or). Curaguara tracks
numerous - also in N. part of ranch. He estimated 1500 cats
on ranch, 15 jaguars. He thought my part of track from Ciro 70 too large
