22 Feb, 1973. Sierra Macarena, Colombia
and I saw feathers of two (cucaro). Said also many topis, deer, few
tigillos. I saw several large burrows, 12" diamete; they said none
of big armadillos. I went about 15 min. along trocho toward Cerro
Rajo, 12 km distant. Narrow trail. In all, 68 km of such tracks
from Rio Cobra. Said rocky area beyond Cerro Rajo about 3 km.
Tracks We drank guarojo. Then started back to ruin. Erik saw
an agouti. Other saw an armadillo or, horse. Arrived about
5:30 p.m. Tosh went back up ruin to retrace in dark,
arriving about 7:30 p.m. Then drove back to Vistahermosa
for the night. Caprimulgids & other calls at night.
23 Feb, 1973 Departed about 0800 to San Juan de Uraba.
Calm, smoky. Flat, ranchhouses, short cropped grass
clearings, clumps secondary & taller forest. Stopped at the
Don Humberto ranch. Forest along stream; many birds. Boun-
ded boulders. Many clear pools w/ fish & tadpoles.
Few jays, cormorant, ant birds. Don Humberto III, has 3
yrs, has some water on birds, mammals. He said tigills
trocha by min to 5, about 1 hr. Chickens, cattle, some crops.

Much mangrove. Rich fauna for birds, rats. | Cland.
Petroi. Co. (Mr. Philip, wife anthropologist) helped Barriga stay in
N. de Santander. Bruce Alton, American, has worked w/ Indians
there for years (contact thru U.S. Embassy?). Putumayo pipeline
to Tumaco. Central Marino exploited, but primitive to N. Cundin
area near Tres Esquinas in N. Central Putumayo, said Ernesto.
