About Asuncion about 350,000 in country of 2 1/2 million.
Fine homes on edge town. Some modern building, such
as bank, high rise hotel, in center town. Prices 50-100 %
higer than Argentina (offer: shfl. 126 g to $, but can get
136). Went to Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo, met Mr.
Douglas, who called Phil Myers Jr. (MVZ grad. student).
Myers living in rather large house & took us there. He
has collected rodent lists, in area and hopes to do good
doctral work on vesperal. Lists in compansion w. N.America.
Felix Myers, 28 part Paraguay long cultivated, N.E. Still
undeveloped.

5 August 1972. Sat. Visited Robert Cator, in office.
Tall, 65 yrs. a so. Has ranch of 109,000 ha., in chaco
to NW of Asuncion, nr. San Juan de Bolazav. At first
he said that cattle & jaguare didn't mix, so had to
kill the jaguares. About 10 per year taken on his
ranch, & no apparent decrease. He said they took
good beef, usually 1-2 yr. olds. But pure were, or
get into corn & killed all sheep. Cator 42 yrs.
in chaco area. In N., where brush increasing, he thought
jaguare increasing. Philadelphia a center for hunting
& collection skins. A remote colony to E. of there.
They'll holler before had searched country & settled on area
nr. Chull. C. Daray, perhaps becomes more open than
mr. E. border. Usually cliente got their jaguares,
rather small. Cator said if cowboys jumped jaguar,
would try to rope him. Personally shot jaguare w.
a big pistol. Said had only seen 2 jaguare when
