Journal 2 August 1972. Wed. Buenos Aires Visited Argentofur, 3012 Bóldoa. Stacks of tanned skins, mostly sheep but also gazelles, vicelas, shunks, Logotaurus. They export skins & garments. President, Jacobo Fiererman?, talked with me in Spanish, & was hospitable. Probably about 65 yrs. This firm processes about 10,000 skins garments (F.G.) per yr.; think about 20,000 used all furin per yr. All stamped by govt. often tanned & rejected. Loy kort (tapeds) again about 20 g. mater., 10 out, or 3 yogia. Think synthetic will never beat fur market much - people prefer natural product. Also, sheep fleece can be dyed & printed to resemble anything else. He serves 5 tanneries. Seefeld in largest tanning! Says some furs taken by poisoning carcasses - no commercial hunter, but poor people, sell to local store (boleche). Natura mostly from crockers. Think not many cats or gazelles coats in B.A. - too expensive. More in Germany, Switzerland. Much talk about markets & prices, which I did not get. | leather fur coat At a neighboring retail store, talked w. Mr. Correio, who thought synthetics were the coming thing and that skins of wild animals were exotic - really harder to get. But also thought that women want "lo que no hay," so natural furs would persist. Natural cats too expensive for most argentinians. | Again visited today. He confirmed that no commercial skin hunter,
