He thought that idea of 4 mill. ha park in Pantanal absurd, because land valuable & already taken up in forestry. He favour smaller park, 50 thousand ha, with cooperating surrounding forestry. He thought food supply very important, and that only wet area survived it. Trans. Amazon highway & branches, to be developed 100 km. each side. Recent paper by Mario Pereira in Science et Nature, #110, 1972, on Le destin de L'Amazonie, had figure of resulting area. C thought amazonia still largely undeveloped, but mature rain forest poor for jaguare because of lack of food. Smuggling - Bolivia to Santar (under trade agreement), Leticia, Parã. Juggling of papers to import. Prohibition of all commer since 30 april 1971. Any proved had before, can still sell. C surveyed stocks as of that date - Maracaja - 38,507. Isto (=uniii) peludo - 56,914. O.Fls. pintada - 28,278 (=tiguia) Onça 21,249. Puma - 170. O.peta 7. About 130,000 spotted cats only - not the million revived. These stocks from Para (mostly shot-baited cat; F.tiguias), Para, Amayvora, Maranhão.
