Journal 25 October 1971 arrived Hermosillo. Clean town with University in desert area. Walked around during afternoon. Then took Pacific bus (2nd class, 31 person) toward Tijucana. 26 October 1971. Arrived Tijuana 7 a.m. walked over border. No check or pickup of tourist cards on Mexican side, a couple of questions but no inspection of our pochochees at U.S. gate. Bus to San Diego. Then to Fresno. Then local to Oakland, arriving 10:45 p.m. Home. No specimens collected on this trip. 4 November 1971 Berkeley Talked with Dr. H. Sternberg, Geography dept., about jaguar-ocelot study, and conditions in Brazil. He was concentrating on Mato Grosso. Student Nigel Smith studying impact of Trans-Amazon highway; I met Smith briefly. 7 November 1971. Smith visited home & showed up photos animals and skins in Amazon area (Para mostly), where he has done field work during two summers.
