stream (mostly dry) - rather zigzag - puzzle effect of green vegetation. A flat-topped hill, "Agite," conspicuous landmark. Bronze cattle. Little water and appeared, but fairly bright green. Extensive stands of 50'
paratudo
tall blue-gray tree (= paratudo), well spaced, many w. termite nest at base.
(Last part of "xerodo" had complete ground cover, area of thick palms, or of bamboo (?). Also sparse" of palms + 70' tree in grassland. Took photos. Landed at Reto's Acurejos, still. 2 yrs oldy. About 3 wooden houses. In yard,
fajiciera tree w. small long-tiled patio, caribeola (white fruit, red meat).
A white (nearly all) flycatcher (?) = "jiguire". Ocumi palms, and tall fan
palms (coconos). | One man there said much game; over trees. But also said he came about every third day, & no mention of ovens. | Off again to W., over paratudo. More photos (t & red). Large area of regularly spaced low termite mounds, like maria mounds; perhaps 10 m. Between crests, no central hole; shaded; then in dryer grassland. Rio Paraguaia,
conspicuous arched bridge. Reto's of Puirol, 2 wood houses by river;
still. 2 years. Hells to west & S., but flat horizon to N & NE. 4-5ft.
high termite mounds about 100 yds. from river. Burn 100yds. wide. Trees 5-6'
tall w. yellow blossom. A caracana pinkish-top termite mound - saw hole
6" hole high up, smaller near base (burrowing mambele?), but very few had no opening. Flushed 2 large sapirinalgito (?) from open ground-
wraps long, marsh-bank like flight; flew 100' & settled; white belly,
black throat, carpineiro white band over wings. | We then flew N,
looking at paratudo & gpa cattle. One pond, artificial dam down, had
about 100 siligatre divided up dry shore, perhaps 6' apart, white points
pointing outward. Taken to E., south of Agite hill, & landed Reto's Bodo-
guena again. | Waited there about 2 hrs., & we lunched. The
capatacy had been here since 1965, another part of ranch before.
