Once, saw jaguar swimming the river, about\n30 m. across. | A.R. related that in 1967, common jag. skins prohibited.\nBut English Govt said they had 2 million skin stock. They were kept until\n1970 date to sell - but A.R. says actually used them to intimidate traders\nsecure skins. Eventually confiscated 800 000 skins, 96 000 of\nSocuri (=onaca). Info. published, IBDF, Dr. C. de Carvalho invited\nand knows details. | In 1936, a jaguar near Sta Teresa. A.R. saw\nit coming road in sand occurrence. Many fields had ant or termite\nmounds, abrupt, about 2' high, spaced fairly loosely. | Bus station similar to Rio;\nperhaps larger; by R.R. station. We walked toward C. Universitario & stayed Lotel.\nSão Paulo, Brazil\n\n21 June 1972. We took bus to C. Univir., Inst. of Botanicsmen, and found office\nof Dr. P. Nogueira - Neto. He at home, but aunt Vera showed me colonies of Melopoeina\nless, specialty of D.N. He invited us to his home for lunch, & we talked there. Good lib-\nrary of recent natural history books in den. He gave us copy of book about a visit to\nU.S. He interested in livestock & in introducing gland to Brazil - thinks exotic wild-\nlife only way to justify saving savannahs.
