at either. We took bus to downtown, then to Copacabana for a bath. Then bus to Praia Flumense area to small hotel, Ibis Park.
14 June 1972. Went to Museu Nacional and talked w. F. Pires, who made suggestions and phone calls for us. Camello away for 10 days; Stockholm conf. Jaguar huntng + commerce prohibited since 1967, the enforcement poor. Xingu park might have died + jaguar, embeloin eat meaty monkeys + birds. British gp. (Mats Izawa book) worked near Abaetira, now reachable by rd. from Araguaia. Cattle in region now. (Pires think jag. minare who settle present.) Black jaguar from Xingu, southern Bahia, nr. Manaus (many date four mammals nr. Manaus). Ken Steyer has settled in Igarassu (manus men who was with S. said person, no jago): / Skin of 2 black jaguar, 1 jaguar ad, 2 cubo, in collection in cases. / At nearby fauna museum talked w. Sr. Albrigbi, preporator. 80+ kg. (Recabador)
They had 07 jaguar mounted, from Cocais area, shot w.. 22 yartel, Oct. 10, 1957, ated rainy season. There were 2 young or 07 v. a f. Had been eating capybara & calf. Skin pale background; manipores to ears. (Fernando said jog. killed dog 100 m. from him in Xingu area, and 4 yrs. ago.) / Mus. had a F. pardivisder, Rio Xingu, 6/4/1946. / I was surprised at large size & long legs of Chrysocyon (Lobo guaru) - said not to attack livestock; eats fruits rodents. In cage, Albrigbi had 2 golden marmonets w. 2 1/2 gram young. Two other in adjacent cage (Lemtid. rodalia). / After much talk w. various at museum, agreed that part ofal in Mats Izawa best area for jaguar - I was concerned by Corumbatai, Copira, Rondosopolis, Coerces (S. Central sealty). Then we now rode into undeval. areas, such as then Barbarea (Valencia gap).
/Belam. Jog. at HN-DNPM said about 15000 people from Ceara settled in "agradier" in north, about 10 of them. / About 80% of Brazil said to be forested, about 56% in Amazonia.
