Nats de la Cruz (SE Barran). In Edo. Apure, mouth of Aruwary R. La Urbana (NE Rio Orinoco). La Calzada (W. Apure). El Berito (N. of Palmarito). E. of Caicara (Edo. Guarico). Most of these areas, Mandolfi worked on trips. He had pencil notes, platted from his notebooks. He said L.Bos. hunted Caño Delgadito, Rio Suripa, + took 27 in 3 months (this apparently from Rowe article in Cuyo y Pet Perea, not Mandolfi note) (perhaps much of distribution also from C. y P. / one hunter, Obui Saboldor, Nats Los Delicias (?), Rio Caraguas. / Area around Santa Maria de Cuparo, W. Apure. Parrava area, NE of Caicara, SE Guarico. N. of Guasualito (W. Apure). / Mandolfi says jaguar decreased greatly, mostly from commercial hunting for skins. High demand started only 7-8 yrs. ago. Says hunter even poisons jaguar. Price about 1000 Bs. ($35/$1). Much poaching along rivers. Many fishermen too, who hunt. / Mandolfi says burning of llanos to make food available to livestock, + think not harmful to jaguar. / M. says, it is said that adult male "padro" catula + moves around in a large area, partly in relation to meat availability water. Spends more time at 3-4 "pericos" Walks much, rests midday. Fights other males that come. In their brush, gallery forests along rivers, swamps. Outer edge of savannah, where go out to hunt, perhaps 100m. from cows. Cubs probably all seasons (1-3). When ? in heat, sound molen after him, + & may fight. In breeding season, call more; also call much when weather change. Palenly 2 yrs. in zoo. Some say when complete dentition. Territory of older in larger. May walk 40km.
