CKoford Journal Jaguar 31 May 1972 Cali, Colombia labeled teriy jaguars, F. pardonides (Lehmann said from higher levels), Cauca Valley, A large old jaguar skull from San Marcos, Bolivar (skull 2 m 90 cm. long, wt. 300 lbs., said CL). Good collection of mounted birds and mammals: several Pudu mephistophelae (also a partial skull with 3 horns in velvet). Lehmann had live two Transoros, about 3 Mazama, or guenons. One Mazama (Americana) had horns in velvet; I tried photos CL said Mazama slide antlers annually here, 1/4 & screamer (Chaco-Caribbean sp.) had nest w/2 eggs in seen, a few other birds, mammals, raincats alive. | Carlos Lehmann, Duitia, said specimens of coastal jaguar (mangrove and rainy foothills) different from inland; at least 5 of Risdan Juan. Goat form has smaller compact spots, leopard-like, rather than rosettes. Distribution jaguar: Cordoba, Sucre, Bolivar, now few or fast destroyed. Recently, tourist dept invited groups to hunt jaguars in lower Magdalena area, after 10 days, no success, so tourist department bought a captive and released it, to be shot. This deed reported in newspapers. | Some friends, ranchers, in Coquira, had dropped ranching and turned to hunting alligators, giant otter, and jaguars for commercially. Vaupes - relatively many black jaguars (= pantera negra). Occur to 1000m. in Cord. La Macarena. Caffron Cauca Valley, last one killed 1928 near Uraba (El Suscito ranch). Formerly, Cali on to N. Formerly jaguars from On Venezuelan side of Cord. Oriental, formerly jaguars (now?). Macarena - selva to 2000m; still good jaguar pop. Arauca, Boyaca, E. Meta, Vichada - savannah, gallery forest - good joy hunting area still. (Bucarevi R.-savannah to N., selva to S. | There in + has been much commercial hunt.
