But have lost pipeline once in zone. Mayrton now in Panama, tho I did not see him. No staff lives on B.C. Island, the environmental project now under way, there (weather + concrete). N.S. thought most Panamanian croci in fact as an enemy to be destroyed. He has been here several years, as has S. Rand. | We stayed night 26th at Penis America, 2 blocks from GMk, $6 fast and clean. | Departed 5:15 on Braniff for Bogota. Went to Penis Alemanas, Canosa 10 min. Calle 10, friendly & clean but in tough district. Some rain at night and much noise of some people, rioting, bells. 28 May - School. Onestation Museo Nacional, Kmns del Ors. 29 May 1972. Mon Bogota- Colombia Went to Induerna office and talked w. director of N. Parks & Wildlife, S. May Franklin V., (IVCN) whom Budowski had written. MF had evidently given no thought to the subject, did not remember receiving questionnaire. He said J. Hernandez was the man to see. MF said few jaguar taken Leticia area, most from Arauca, many actually taken in adjacent Venezuela, some from Chocoi W Colombia. | Bear Corps office next to MF, but no one there until about 11 a.m. Man in charge was Don Nunezole. Pat Warren (F, family of Davis, Calif.) workoff on a study of mammals. There was a vertebrate lab, with skins + skulls, and alcoholic, at Crv. 14 # 35-15, in an old house. | Don said that a student had compiled hunting and export statistics from ICA data. There was a 250,000 h. pressure on the Orinoco, S. of Pts. CarreƱo, recently set up. Many Amazon mammals there, including Priodontes, Dasyproctus Spectra. Condor have a presence near Bato, in order of 50. Leticia area now flooded, poor for travel - plan over a week - Mike Food Tsalkie (popsp.?) has collecting zoo there and never hunting trips ($200 per day for cat hunts). Don fuzzy on game laws.
