Journal 8 March 1972. Oaxaca, Mexico prohibition of commerce by jofrii! I in museum, saw good jaguar lower, and some jaguar figures, Sue said. 10 March 1972. I went to the Agriculture office and through four steps got to Lbarra, presumably the forestry delegate. They were having today a "reunion" of all the forest sector chiefs, about 20 of them present. Lbarra first explained that Oaxaca did not have jaguars, but with aid of a young assistant, we explored that they were in their deep area. They told me to come to a meeting of the jefes in the Corono de Comercio at 11 a.m. I went and Lbarra introduced me, but said I wanted to obtain skins. Arst. & I quickly corrected him, & he asked group where found jaguars, mentioning Santa Doming's area as a place of hide commerce. The Tehuantipe dot chief spoke up and verified occurrence there. He did not think hunting had diminished numbers there. Then no one volunteered, until I asked Lbarra to ask about south coast area. Then Puerto Escondido, Nuevo-luceo, Huam-cluba, Cosaltepein mentioned, but no specific men to interview. Bose suggested Club de Furecero in Matias Romero. Someone suggested: Dn. Javier Larumbe in Oaxaca city. There was agreement that there was much control and not that skins were used to manufacture articles, but no one seemed upset by this. In fact, the Tehuantipe men started to say, "the best way for the serin to get a jaguar is..." when an assistant cut him off, saying I didn't want animal or skins.
