Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, Mexico
Bavaro area - enter via Lojuma. Chris said we caught not long ago in a pit, the this not a usual method of trapping. He said still occulti near Angola (ruins and hill near Tehuantepec); once (10 yrs. ago) it he shot 3 then about 7-8 a.m. by squealing like a rabbit to attract them. Usually many skinn at this time of year, or wintered scarce & easy to hunt near drying ponds. Usually hunt at night with light; last results about 2 a.m., he said.
El Cerrato
Cerrato nearly area w. cave, also still had oculti, panos, Chris said. Panus skin of no value, he said, nor mangay (too small). Chris had secured oculti skin to stuff, for use in an old Tehuantepec dance, in which paraded around the stuffed animal (to be performed for the President soon). Mangay called "Yagabebe," which means tree climber. Found some mono or anteater. White-tailed deer, foxes, raccoons, also brought in locally. Cartridges - now cannot buy under belong to hunting club, or register name and get permit. (But Chris makes own powder, cuts up wire for shot). Don T. mentioned that Pony Galley & Karen Koch (sp.?) accompanied Benjod into Cerro Baul area, going by mule from Pinatapan.

Looked around town and market. Leather purser with hide of deer on outside seen. Stop El Caballo Mixtlen, M. Cobena 104; Mr. Conen Aldama, had 3 stuffed oculti pels on display, a purse finished in jaguar skin too. In rear room, a crate had been opened and bulged at least 20 oculti hides, plus mangana and other. This evidence indicates no effective
