Textla Gatorero, Chapas, Mexico
several juvenile, gray color, poor skin warts. Of juvs., some ?? had small testes (5 mm.), some ?? inactive reps. tails, but all had full sized foreskin (60 mm.). Of ??, 5 large brown ones were obviously pregnant, fetuses large + palpable. Some had dark enlarged ut. horns, only seen in the ?? with no milk observed. ?? ?? with large testes, 9 mm. long, I saved none of these specimens.) This part has clean sands + pools, varied species trees, pink Talclusis now in bloom. But overwhelmed w. one species, A. jansiciana (?) , or else not placed firmly for other. Big notes in shaded area among large luthered trunks, but 18' fine net among skin trunks, and still missed out w. same species. | Prepared for visit to Mac Dougall in Tehuantepec.
Tehuantepex, Oaxaca
3 March 1972. Took noon bus to Tehuantepec. Along way, quiet dry, many leafless trees, smoke in air, some burning.

Found "Don Tomas" in room at Hotel Istmo. He was plant collector, had been coming to this area since 1930 (?). Collected Bryonius a related plants for collector. Had collected small mammals for AMNH, included in Goodwin's "Mammals of Oaxaca." Had collected for Robert Smith, now at Amos. Colo. Recently had article in Cyclae's Journal, June '71, about forest area of E. Oaxaca. It. Van Dyke had helped him get it published. | Entrance to Cerro Azul area near junction Juchitei-Aviaga roads, S. of Cuetlaxpa. Carlos Mimi was ranch owner (Sr.-then, Jr. now ranch). Various scientists had been to that forest area - Rawley, Benjof, Buckbee. Said quetzal there. | Lumbering benefited in that stopes burning practiced by former cattlemen. | Another way to
