Journal 1 March 1972 Torta Gutierrez, Chiapas Still in construction; reservoir will cover mostly farmlands, not wildlife habitat. Lago Malpaso - still flooded parts along shore. letter from Mrs Dougell, telling of undeveloped area accessible from Cintalapa (on Cutzamalan river). / MA del T says salamanders at Kopsepolo in large, dark, w. white spots (ambystoma ?). / Most date in Tapitla parks in April-May, he said. I put up traps, last nite in the zoo grounds about 6 p.m. Retuned 9 p.m., 12 m. Took about 7 Antilium janaiensis (?), some with green fig; saved 4. Some with large fetues. or torte large. One small phyllotomid (spec.), one Sunchania (spec.). / Looked at eyeshaies of zoo animals - tiger red, not brilliant. Margey - green, brig & brilliant. Ocelot - reddish. White-lipped paracin clacked tucba at me. Karkoyan eye white, brilliant. Crocodile & caiman, red. 2 March 1972. Talked again w. M.A. del T. Then with Cpy. Palacho (sp.?), director of Botanical Dept. It do that position a year. Friendly, & interested conversation. Shortly he accompanied army officers on a flight to Selva Lacandona. At Pies de Oro they found a hunting party, which had flown in from Mexico City. The men had 500 rounds of ammunition!
