Journal 27 February 1972. La Concepcion, S. Chiares, Mexico Tigers come out of woods, go to drink near boat landing, and walk to A.del T. Jock. Also, that Don Miguel had twice seen a cub last November, at Tchite; I think (check w. Ma. del T.). If Pancho said another seen one behind house. He had been here 2 yrs. Said they had never heard jaguar roar. | We started to row to La Concepcion, & supposedly 1 1/2 hrs. Lost a tow at Cuencajide, & went rest of the way. Then, house of large family ("children") near river water, and about 30 people gathered, apparently to have sort of a goodby party for slain arrow. The widow told me all about it... when the machete cuts were, etc Unknown who did it. | On way out saw pair of black lambs, opossums, armadillo, a chachalaca flew across 100yds of water, parakeet, mirracoa (magic joy), black mitimer, a tigris kitten, blue heron, frogate dove. | With Pancho and local man, we walked thru woods at edge mangroves around west of the creek, about 2 hrs. Central area largely tall grass. Many palms. Our guide said no monkeys, but deer, armadillos, porcoos, etc.- no javeli, a gallivison bird larger than chachalaca. Small ponds had turtle; saw old shells. Many garvoro (lig ej carver), some a meter long. Saw one boarish, under spiny wild-pineapple. Took two Andes, an America, & smaller lizard (spars.). Guide said two tigers killed recently, one large 5', one smaller 2' (not pregnant), one about 20 days ago (the Dr. said 25 days). Skin sold; large as at 1300 pesos. Bones thrown away, including skulls. Tiger pained by dogs, shot w. 16 ga. shotgun. Saw a guy
